Law and Gospel

As a Lutheran, we believe we are bound by the law but freed by grace. We can find the freeing grace in the Gospels. I have been reading Martin Luther’s works, vol 26 and 27. Volume 26 and 27 is Luther’s discussion on Galatians

. This is a promise to a professor of mine from Seminary. I have to say, it is some very enjoyable reading. Here is something I came across in volume 26. “…let every Christian learn diligently to distinguish between the Law and the Gospel. Let him permit the Law to rule his body and its members but not his conscience. For that queen and bride must not be polluted by the Law but must be kept pure for Christ, her one and only husband;…”. This just says so much and is so freeing. Yes, law and grace but grace frees us from the punishment of the law. Amen
